Is it wise for a vegan to date a non-vegan?
In a word, no. Problems will arise.
I know a fair few vegans who went vegan after having married, while their partner remained a meat eater. Not only has this caused arguments, but where kids are involved, it can get pretty difficult.
- Could you stand watching your partner chomp down on ribs while you eat your lentil burger?
- Could you kiss someone after they'd just necked a glass of bovine growth hormones (milk)?
- Could you stand and watch your partner feed your child chicken wings?
I sure couldn't!
Okay, enough of the horrible visuals already. But the reality is that it's advisable for single vegans to date other vegans, if that is they don't want to run into the aforementioned issues. In my opinion, if you can't agree that cruelty to animals is unnecessary, and that meat and dairy is super unhealthy, I don't hold out much hope for a successful, loving future together.
That's all well and good, you might say, but where can I find another vegan that thinks like me? A vegan looking for romance who shares my love of animals and plant-based foods?
Where can I find someone with interests like animal welfare, permaculture, sustainable living, alternative energy sources, bicycling over driving, organic gardening and all such conscious things?
Enter vegan dating, well, vegetarian and vegan dating, because most sites combine the two groups.
The 3 Best Vegan-Vegetarian Dating Sites
While the big players like Match.com and eHarmony might have vegan and vegetarian members – a vegetarian is well placed to go vegan after having met you (wink, wink) – you're likely to find yourself lost in a sea of meat-eaters and struggling to find matches.
Thankfully, however, the internet has a number of vegan dating sites where like-minded plant eaters can seek each other out. Mind you though, not all are created equally, as I found out in my research. Indeed, some hardly have any members and, despite some looking the part, many don't appear active at all.
So I researched every vegan/vegetarian (where vegans are also members) dating site and found the 4 best for you to try. To determine the which ones were the best, I looked at how much traffic visited each site on a monthly basis and the time on site members were spending, dug into the features and value, and even checked out their media coverage for feedback.
So here they are, my 3 top vegan dating site picks:

Veggie Connection is a not-for-profit site that is supported by volunteers and the financial subsidies of its founder, Ken. On here you'll find vegans, raw-foodists, fruitarians, vegetarians and macrobiotics for romance and friendships. It's a community within itself that boasts a forum, blog and regular polls for its members.
The site is user friendly, albeit a tad out of touch with modern design expectations, with the ability to add up to 52 photos and revise your profile at the click of a button. Time on site per member is high at 8 minutes+, a good sign that users enjoy sticking around.
It's free to join, with subscriptions starting at just $3.33 a month. Silver membership means that recipients must be, or upgrade to, Silver or Gold to reply. Whereas Gold membership means recipients of all levels, including free members, may read and reply.

Veggie Date is arguably the most popular vegetarian dating site online, so note that in addition to vegans and raw vegans the site includes lacto vegetarians, ovo vegetarians, pescatarians (fish and vegetable eaters), semi-vegetarian and macrobiotic eaters.
More than 400 new members join the site each month, so it's pretty active. It's worth a mention that Veggie Date was a 2013 nominee for best niche dating data.
The site is free to join and browse, but premium members can upload additional photos and send any member (even free members) a message, who in turn will be able to read and respond.
